From Kriesha Cha to UNIS: Introducing K-Pop's Girl Group Filipino Line

Following the announcement of Filipino members joining UNIS, K-pop officially has a whole Filipina line! Here are the active K-pop idols who are Filipinas!

Please note that this list only include female Filipino idols who are in K-pop groups or as soloists. It will not include artists who are signed under K-pop entertainment companies but will debut in global groups.

1. Kriesha Chu

Kriesha Chu was born in Makati, Philippines, but was raised in San Francisco, the United States. She was born on December 20, 1998, to Filipino parents of Chinese heritage. Her parents are originally from Cebu, and she speaks English, Cebuano, Tagalog, and Korean. She holds citizenship in the US and the Philippines.

Kriesha Chu entered the K-pop industry in 2016, when she competed on "K-Pop Star 6: The Last Chance. She finished as one of the runner-ups. She made her solo debut in 2017 with her first single album. Her last comeback was in 2018, with her mini-album, "Dream of Paradise." She is the first Filipina K-pop soloist.

From 2020 to 2023, Kriesha Chu went MIA. Then, on October 4, 2023, it was announced she had signed with New Way Company. It is speculated that she is gearing up for her first comeback in six years.

2. Lapillus's Chanty

Chanty, whose full name is Maria Chantal Videla, was born in Manila, Philippines, on December 15, 2002. She is half Filipina (mom's side) and half Argentine. She was raised in Mendoza, Argetina, but moved back to the Philippines as a teen.

Chanty's career started in the Philippines. She made her acting debut in 2018 with the drama "Spirits: Reawaken." She continued acting in the Philippines until 2020. In 2021, she moved to South Korea to begin her K-pop training at MLD Entertainment.

She made her debut with Lapillus on June 20, 2022. She is actively promoting with the group, but she is still making sure to work in the Philippines! In November 2022, Chanty signed with GMA Network's talent agency, Sparkle, for her activities in the country.

3. UNIS - Elisia, Gehlee Dangca, Jin Hyeonju

UNIS will be the first K-pop girl group to debut with a whole Filipina line. The group has three members of Filipino descent: Elisia, Gehlee Dangca, and Jin Hyeonju.

Elisia was born on April 18, 2009, in the Philippines. Before coming to South Korea, she was a trainee under Star Magic in the Philippines. Prior to joining "Universe Ticket," she was allegedly a trainee under Starship Entertainment, but it is unknown when she joined the company and when she left. She is speculated to debut as UNIS's center, as she ended the show in first place.

Gehlee Dangca is from Las Pinas, the Philippines, and was born on August 19, 2007. Before pursuing her dream of being an idol, Gehlee was a model in the Philippines. She was active in paegeants and represented several brands, including Aspire Magazine, Ortiz Group of Skin Clinics, and TBC International.

Jin Hyeonju is half Filipina (mom's side) and half Korean and was born on November 3, 2001. Before securing her spot in UNIS, Jin Hyeonju had already made her debut twice: once under the stage name Lucky with GOOD DAY in 2017, and another as Belle with cignature in 2019.
