MIYAVI Joins Cast of Gritty Korean Thriller About the Dark Side of Property Dreams

Miyavi to debut in Kdrama world

Japanese rock star and actor MIYAVI has been tapped for a major role in the upcoming Korean thriller drama How to Become a Building Owner in Korea (working title). The project, written by Oh Han Ki and helmed by director Im Pil Sung (Antarctic Journal, Scarlet Innocence), explores the murky underworld of real estate ambition in Seoul.

According to SpotNews, the series follows the descent of a desperate landlord whose mounting debts push him into a dangerous criminal conspiracy. As he fights to protect his family and cling to the dream of property ownership, the cost of survival begins to outweigh morality. MIYAVI will portray Morgan Lee, the sharp and enigmatic executive director of Real Capital, a shadowy investment firm at the heart of the unfolding drama. Starring alongside Korean heavyweights Ha Jung Woo and Shim Eun Kyung, MIYAVI is poised to make a memorable debut in Korean television, with his role rumored to be a critical turning point in the plot.

Known worldwide as the "Samurai Guitarist," MIYAVI has built a unique career fusing blistering guitar riffs with sleek fashion and global humanitarian work. Born Takamasa Ishihara in Osaka, he first broke into Japan's visual kei rock scene in the early 2000s before going solo and redefining his sound with slap-style acoustic guitar playing. He's released over a dozen albums and performed in more than 30 countries.

Beyond music, MIYAVI has cultivated a formidable acting career, beginning with his powerful debut as the brutal antagonist in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken (2014). Since then, he's taken on roles in KATE (Netflix) and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, while also serving as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, advocating for refugees around the globe. His casting in How to Become a Building Owner in Korea marks a bold new step in his screen journey, signaling his growing presence in Asia's entertainment industry.
