Renowned vocalist SoHyang has revealed that she quietly divorced her husband more than two years ago, bringing an end to their 25-year marriage. This was also confirmed by her agency KQ Entertainment, which released a statement saying that the pair "decided to support each other's separate paths after sufficient conversation and mutual respect."
The statement, as posted in Chosun, added, "We inform you that the divorce was not due to the fault of one party but was based on mutual agreement." The agency also requested, "We ask for restraint in distorted or indiscriminate reporting and comments."
In an exclusive interview with Edaily ahead of her upcoming concert, the singer shared that she married her former husband in 1998 after meeting him in the CCM group POS. Their relationship concluded in 2023, and the couple had no children.
"After getting married, we realized we had different personalities and values, but we tried to make it work. Over time, we concluded that it was best to go our separate ways. After a long period of reflection, we came to a mutual agreement and parted ways," she said, according to AllKpop.
Courage From 'K-pop Demon Hunters'
SoHyang explained that the Netflix animated film "K-pop Demon Hunters" gave her the courage to finally share the news with the public. Immersed in making her first full-length album since her debut, she kept silent for over two years.
The turning point came when she watched a scene in which the main character, Rumi, revealed her hidden identity. "It moved me deeply," SoHyang said. "At the same time, I felt ashamed for hiding the truth about my own divorce. I made a promise to myself that if I ever had the chance to speak honestly, I wouldn't hide it anymore. I wanted to be courageous like Rumi."
Her recent cover of "Golden," a song by HUNTR/X from the film, has already drawn over 2.4 million views on YouTube.
A Career of Global Recognition
Since debuting in 1996, SoHyang has built a reputation for her exceptional vocal range. She has performed on major international stages, including the 2014 NBA Opening Ceremony, the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Games, the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championships, and the 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships. She has also captivated audiences on popular Korean music shows such as "I Am a Singer 2," "Immortal Songs," and "The King of Mask Singer."
In 2023, she signed an exclusive contract with KQ Entertainment, the agency behind global idol group ATEEZ. The collaboration stemmed from her appearance alongside Hongjoong and Jongho on KBS 2TV's "I'm a Singer."
She said that she's not afraid of trying new things and would love to expand her career overseas, adding that her goal is "to continue singing about dreams, love, and hope—and to bring healing to as many people as possible."

Addressing her supporters, SoHyang said: "To those learning about the divorce through this article, I want you to know that there's no need to worry. I hope you'll support both me and my former husband as we move forward on our own paths."
