Former BtoB Ilhoon Admits to Smoking Marijuana 161 Times in First Trial Hearing

Jung Ilhoon admits to the charges brought against him in his first trial hearing.

The rapper and former member of BtoB is under investigation after being speculated of habitually smoking marijuana, which he later admits in his first trial hearing.

On April 22, the Seoul Central District Court held the first trial for eight people, including Jung Ilhoon, who were charged with violating the law through drug consumption.

Jung Ilhoon, who is currently serving as a public service worker for his mandatory military service, appeared in court with his attorney.

According to the prosecution, Jung Ilhoon conspired with the other defendants from July 6, 2016 to January 9, 2019, spending over 130 million won ($116,400) for drugs and smoking a total of 826g (approximately 1.8 pounds) of marijuana in 161 times.

Jung Ilhoon admitted to his charges, "I'm sincerely reflecting on my mistakes. I'm really sorry," the rapper said.

In addition, Jung Ilhoon's attorney also admits to the charges, "The defendant acknowledges all the facts presented by the proseuction and is currently reflecting on his wrongdoings."

The remaining seven defendants in the trial also admitted to the charges brought against them by the prosecution.

Before the trial hearing, Jung Ilhoon submitted two statements on his reflection on April 15, 2020.

The second trial hearing will be held on May 20 at 2pm KST.

In December 2020, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency revealed in a statement that the BtoB member was brought up to the prosecution in July 2020, along with a recommendation that he be charged with the violation of South Korea's Narcotics Contral Act with the other accomplices in the case.

According to reports, Jung Ilhoon allegedly made use of virtual currency to purchase the marijuana through second hand from his acquaintance in multiple transactions over the past four to five years.

When the allegation came to light, many fans expressed their disappointment with the rapper and demanded that he be removed from the group immediately to avoid damaging BtoB's reputation further.

Jung Ilhoon, who is currently serving as a public service worker since his enlistment in May 28, 2020, a month before he was brought up to the prosecution, left BtoB in December 31, 2020 after Cube Entertainment made a statement that they were made aware of the rapper's drug involvement and controversy.
