MAMAMOO Moonbyul's solo comeback has been announced to take place in January and the female idol has started to excite fans with the first teaser for her new music release.

On Dec. 6, MAMAMOO member Moonbyul has officially announced her plans for a solo comeback. The rapper previously hinted at her return as a soloist during her interview with Singles magazine. She has also been telling fans that she is preparing for a solo comeback or some other solo project before the year ends.

According to MAMAMOO's agency, RBW, Moonbyul will release a solo album in January next year. The album is in the form of a mini-album, which will be released in nearly two years since her previous work "Dark Side of the Moon" was dropped in February 2020.

The agency added, "As it is a new album, it will contain Moonbyul's different charms and emotions that have never been seen before."

On Dec. 6 at midnight KST, MAMAMOO Moonbyul dropped a "Coming Soon" poster that has the date "2022.01" at the bottom.

Meanwhile, Moonbyul might have a new solo project ahead of the release of her new mini-album in January 2022. She previously released a mysterious teaser video titled "6ix," which presents the rapper in what appears to be an abandoned place while she pushes a cart full of random things.

In the past, she has put out solo releases for fans on her birthday, which falls on Dec. 22.

On Feb. 14 of last year, Moonbyul dropped her second solo album, titled "Dark Side of the Moon." The album comprises six songs in total including the title track "Eclipse." The MAMAMOO member is credited as a songwriter in "Eclipse," as well as in "Mirror," "Snow" and "Moon Movie." She also co-composed "Mirror."

MAMAMOO Moonbyul's "Eclipse" is a hip-hop dance song with a dynamic track form and vocals. One hour after its release, the title track debuted on different music charts in South Korea. It entered at No. 2 on Soribada, No. 7 on Bugs, No. 11 on Genie, No. 36 on MelOn and No. 94 on FLO.

Meanwhile, Moonbyul's album entered the top 5 of iTunes Albums charts in 10 countries and debuted at No. 6 on the Worldwide iTunes Albums Chart.

On the first day of sales alone, MAMAMOO Moonbyul's "Dark Side of the Moon" impressively sold more than 59,000 copies on the Hanteo Chart. This resulted in the female idol becoming the third best-selling female soloist after IU and Girls' Generation Taeyeon for the first day of album sales in 2020.

What's more amazing is that Moonbyul's mini-album exceeded the first day of sales of MAMAMOO's second album "Reality in BLACK," which was dropped in November 2019. The album sold around 51,500 copies on the first day.

In the first week of release, MAMAMOO Moonbyul's "Dark Side of the Moon" sold over 66,000 copies.
