'EXO Is OT9' Trends After Kris Wu's 13-Year Jail Time Announcement: 'Don't Associate Him With EXO!'
Kris Wu left EXO in 2014, and the K-pop boy group's fans, EXO-Ls, urged everyone not to associate him with the remaining members anymore.
SM Entertainment debuted EXO in 2012, introducing Kris Wu as the 11th member of the boy group. However, he exited the band two years later due to issues he had with the company.
Some EXO-Ls still included him in the group, saying that EXO would always be OT12. But things changed following his assault controversy and recent sentencing.

Kris Wu, EXO's Names Should Not Appear In One Statement, EXO-Ls Say
Over a year since he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, a Chinese court in Beijing found him guilty of the sexual offenses. This led it to sentence him to 13 years imprisonment.
The announcement of jail time came after the Chaoyang District People's Court in Beijing said that the Chinese-Canadian singer molested and sexually abused three women at his residence between November 2020 and December 2020.
On top of these claims, Kris Wu reportedly made two other women engage in licentious activities while intoxicated due to alcohol.

Following the announcement of the sentencing, fans - who formerly supported him even after he left EXO - expressed their disgust and disappointment toward the singer. They also urged everyone to stop associating him with the boy group, making the phrase "EXO is OT9" and "EXO is 9" trend worldwide.
Among the comments read:
"Kris Wu left EXO in 2014. Please refer to him as a Rapper and not as a former EXO member. Nobody called Michael Jackson Ex - Jackson five. This act is bringing unnecessary hate to the group that already severed ties with him a long time ago. EXO is 9."
"It has been 8 years since Kris wu left exo. Don't associate him with Exo. He is not in exo anymore and will never return to exo. Its 2022 already, move on."

Kris Wu's Sexual Abuse Controversy
The shocking claims emerged after he was spotted at a movie theater with a girl named Chen Ziyi. He rented the whole theater to enjoy their date, but photos of them together were still leaked to the public.
From there, the 19-year-old Du Meizhu revealed how Kris Wu molested her when she was 17 years old while she was drunk at his home after an alleged casting interview.
More women came forward, including two minors, saying that the former idol lured them into having intercourse.
He was formally arrested in August 2021, a month after his detention. His case became the most high-profile #MeToo case in China and caused international media outlets to share his shocking story with the world.
