(G)I-DLE Becomes the Second K-pop Girl Group Outside of the 'Big 3' to Achieve this Feat

(G)I-DLE recently attained a major milestone that made them become the second K-pop girl group that is not under the management of the "Big 3" companies to accomplish it, with the first one being MAMAMOO.

On Jan. 11, (G)I-DLE made their comeback after five months since their first single album "Dumdi Dumdi." The six-member girl group launched its fourth extended play titled "I Burn," featuring its lead single "HWAA." Written and co-composed by member Soyeon, "HWAA" is a moombahton-genre song with a catchy hook and traditional Asian music. The track expresses the pain after a breakup using the burning fire and flowers in the cold winter as a metaphor.

(G)I-DLE Wins Their 10th Music Show Trophy with "HWAA"

A few days after the release of (G)I-DLE's "HWAA," the band claimed its first trophy for the single in MBC M's "Show Champion" and their first win for 2021 on a music show. The song continuously received love and support from fans, bringing the sextet to achieve their 10th music show trophy for "HWAA" on Feb. 4.

On the Feb. 4 episode of Mnet's "M Countdown," the nominees for the first place were Golden Child's "Burn It," and (G)I-DLE's "HWAA." With a total score of 7,173, the female act managed to grab the win, beating the boy band's 7,062 points. This is the third week in a row that "HWAA" ranked in first place on "M Countdown," meaning (G)I-DLE has obtained a "triple crown"! The band didn't appear on the recent episode as their promotions for their new song have concluded.

(G)I-DLE Becomes Second K-pop Girl Group Outside of the "Big 3" to Achieve a "Triple Crown"

Considering that (G)I-DLE is under Cube Entertainment and not the "Big 3" entertainment agencies in South Korea - Big Hit Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and SM Entertainment - the sextet becomes the second K-pop girl group outside of these three labels to achieve a triple crown, as well as the first in three years to attain this feat since MAMAMOO in 2017.

Back in July 2017, MAMAMOO obtained their first "triple crown" on Mnet's "M Countdown" with "Yes I Am." At that time, the RBW Entertainment female act beat BLACKPINK's "As If It's Your Last" for the No. 1 position. MAMAMOO won with a total score of 8,153 to BLACKPINK's 6,934 points. This was the third week in a row that the RBW group took first place on "M Countdown."

(G)I-DLE's Other 2021 Achievements So Far

Besides becoming the second K-pop girl group outside of the "Big 3" companies, (G)I-DLE has also become the very first fourth-generation idol group to debut a song at No. 1 on South Korea's Melon chart. Together with entering the Bugs and Genie charts at No. 1, "HWAA" also hit the top spot on the Melon real-time chart, which is by far the largest and hardest chart to enter in South Korea.

Among the other milestones of (G)I-DLE's "HWAA" are peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100 and debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE teamed up with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike for the remix version of "HWAA," which is set to be out today, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. KST.

Congratulations to (G)I-DLE!
