EXO's Lay requests fans not to blame SM Entertainment, says fainting incident his fault

It has only been 10 days since EXO member Lay's fainting incident at the Incheon International Airport. Now he has finally opened up about what had happened.

On October 11, Lay and his fellow band members had arrived at the said airport to catch a flight to Japan where their group, EXO, will be holding their solo concert. Unfortunately, right before he was about to board the plane, Lay collapsed all of a sudden. You can only imagine the surprise and worry of the people who were around him at the time.

Lay was quickly brought to a hospital and all the while, the singer remained unresponsive throughout the transport. News regarding the incident quickly spread and was further supported by the fans who were present at the time, claiming the incident to be true.

Soompi reported that after being brought to the hospital, SM Entertainment immediately released a statement regarding Lay's condition. "Lay had briefly fainted as caused by his lack of sleep. The doctor said that he would be fine after he gets plenty of rest. In the meantime, Lay will be going back to the dorms so that he can rest." The statement says.

The rest of the Kpop group EXO then boarded the plane after taking Lay to the hospital and making sure he's fine. Fellow EXO member Kai gave an update on Lay's condition through his "Naver V Live" broadcast and said that Lay would be joining them for their concert in Japan. The following day, Lay himself posted an update on his personal Weibo account thanking everyone and asking them to stay safe. He also promised to get some good sleep.

Unfortunately though, SM Entertainment was quickly put into the fire as worried fans blamed the talent agency for the fainting incident and for 'overworking' Lay and the other members of EXO. However, during an event for the Chinese drama, "The Mystic Nine," Lay had finally cleared things up.

According to Allkpop, Lay had participated in the event and was asked by the MC whether or not he is getting enough rest these days. Responding to the question, Lay immediately took responsibility for the fainting incident and asked the fans not to blame SM Entertainment.

"It was my fault that I had fainted." Lay began. "I ask that you do not blame my label, SM Entertainment, for I am the one who decides the arrangement of my schedule. I am not the type of person who would readily admit defeat that is why I try to do everything as much as I can. My agency respects my choices."

It was surely noble of Lay to take responsibility for the unfortunate incident. It is highly likely that this was all an honest case of exhaustion which most successful artists experience today. Prior to his fainting, Lay also released his first ever solo track "What U Need."
