BLACKPINK Earns Another First on Billboard

It was revealed that BLACKPINK has become the first female group to spend a total of 30 weeks on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart with "The Album." The last all-girl band who achieved such a milestone was American girl group Pussycat Dolls in 2008.

Most, if not all, BLINKs are aware that "The Album" by BLACKPINK was released on Oct. 2, 2020. The EP, which served as the first Korean-language studio album of the group, saw early success after it effortlessly debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 2020 with over 110,000 units sold.

Not only that because BLACKPINK's "The Album" was also proclaimed as the highest-charting album by an all-female group since "Welcome to the Dollhouse" by Danity Kane in 2018. It was also pronounced as the highest-charting female Korean album and reached the No. 1 spots in Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, and many other countries around the world.

The official music video of "How You Like That," which is the official carrier single of "The Album," garnered more than 86.3 million views within its first day of release on YouTube. It even broke the record as the most viewed music video in its first 24 hours, which was previously earned by BTS' "Boy with Luv."

"The Album" also contained the very first track collaboration of BLACKPINK with Disney album Selena Gomez and pop songstress Ariana Grande, who was credited as one of the composers, called "Ice Cream." The said song served as the second single of the EP and was released to the public on Aug. 28, 2020. It peaked at No. 13 on Billboard Hot 100, which is the group's highest-charting single in the United States.

BLACKPINK Surpasses Camila Cabello on Spotify

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK also made another record on Spotify after the group became the 10th most followed female act on Spotify. The group, which is composed of Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo, has beat Camila Cabello, who is now listed on No. 11.

In April, BLACKPINK also surpassed Nicki Minaj's total number of followers on the said music streaming platform. Ariana Grande remains on top, followed by Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé, respectively. Adele, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, and Shakira also secured the seventh, eighth, and ninth ranks as of late.

BLACKPINK has also amassed more than 700 million streams already on Spotify in 2021 alone. "How You Like That." "Lovesick Girls," "Pretty Savage" and "Kill this Love" are among the most listened to BLACKPINK songs on the said platform. The record made the promising K-pop band the most streamed female band this year so far. Of course, these statistics are expected to increase in the upcoming months as more and more listeners continue to stream on the music of Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa.
