What is 'Girls Planet 999'?

"Girls Planet 999" is Mnet's new reality survival program that just premiered back on August 6 and aimed to debut a girl group that will consist of nine members. The show features 99 contestants who are split into three equal groups of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese backgrounds.

The show also features a "planet" theme, which is in partnership with the Korean platform UNIVERSE. In fact, a notable aspect about the show is that fans from outside of South Korea can participate in the voting - which Mnet deems would be for fairness in voting.

In addition, unlike Mnet's previous survival programs which eliminates individual contestants, the contestants of the show are grouped into three called "cells," and either all members of the group will survive or be eliminated from the show.

Meanwhile, the show is hosted by actor Yeo Jin Goo, with Girls' Generation's Tiffany and Sunmi being one of the mentors.

The show airs every Friday at 8:20pm KST, and will air until the finale on October 22 KST.
